The design for the new Marshalls location in Cottonwood focused on delivering a clean, consistent, and brand-driven retail environment. National retail brands require spaces that can stand up to foot traffic while maintaining a bright, polished appearance from floor to ceiling. Achieving this aesthetic at scale relies on uniform, high-performance coatings rather than elaborate architectural details. The scope called for a transformation of the raw commercial space into a finished retail footprint, requiring a commercial painting contractor capable of executing large-scale, multi-surface painting efficiently and to strict brand standards.

Valley Paint was contracted by Dynamic Trades Inc. to execute the complete painting and wallcovering scope for the large-scale tenant improvement project. The painting scope covered the entire store footprint, including gypsum walls, structural ceilings, exposed overhead decking, and all hollow metal doors and frames.

The project relied on commercial-grade coatings from Sherwin-Williams to provide a highly durable, uniform finish across every surface. Painting the exposed structural deck and overhead mechanicals in a bright, consistent white was critical to maximizing light reflection and creating the open, airy feel expected in modern retail environments. In addition to the extensive painting scope, our team installed specialized wallcoverings in the fitting rooms to introduce a more refined and intentional design element, elevating the customer experience in a key interaction space. Proper sequencing between the overhead deck painting and the final wall finishes was essential to maintain quality and protect completed surfaces.

The primary challenge of this project was logistical. Located in Cottonwood, Arizona, this was a travel project that required precise coordination of crew, equipment, and materials outside of the typical Metro Phoenix market. Large-scale retail tenant improvements operate on strict, aggressive schedules to meet immovable store opening deadlines. Valley Paint had to ensure that all lifts, spray equipment, and high-volume coatings were on-site and ready to deploy without delay. Close coordination with Dynamic Trades Inc. and other active trades was necessary to ensure proper sequencing — particularly for the overhead deck painting, which must be completed before flooring and lower-wall finishes can proceed safely.
