retail wallcovering, built for better sleep
Starts on the Sales Floor
Sleep Number’s Buckeye Commons showroom was built around a modern residential wellness concept—an environment intended to feel bright, calm, and welcoming while still working hard as a product-led retail space. The design does not rely on a traditional dense retail aesthetic. Instead, the sales floor gives the bed displays, consultation areas, and feature finishes room to breathe, helping customers focus on the experience of personalized comfort.
Valley Paint helped bring that direction to life through a complete interior finish scope that combined clean white painted surfaces with two owner-supplied wallcovering feature walls across the open sales area. The contrast was intentional. White walls and ceilings create a crisp, flexible backdrop for the merchandise, while the wallcovering gives key parts of the showroom a warmer and more dimensional identity. Together, those finishes turn the sales floor into a considered environment rather than a collection of displays.

retail painting and wallcovering, in sync
Focused Feature Walls.
Working with Burdg Dunham & Associates, Valley Paint completed the interior painting and wallcovering scope for the new tenant-improvement build-out. The painting work covered gypsum walls, ceilings, soffits, interior doors, and door frames. In the open sales floor, Valley Paint installed the owner-supplied wallcovering across two feature walls—roughly half of the visible wall area in that key customer-facing zone.
Why these coatings matter: The material system was selected to keep the retail environment clean, consistent, and practical without flattening the design. ProMar 200 in eggshell provides the painted wall surfaces with a subtle sheen and a finish that can better accommodate routine showroom use than a flat wall coating. Sherwin-Williams Premium Ceiling Paint in flat helps the ceilings recede visually, preserving a quieter field above the displays and reducing unwanted shine. On doors and frames, Pro Industrial Water Based Alkyd Urethane in semi-gloss provides a more resilient finish for high-touch surfaces, with the clean, refined appearance expected in a customer-facing interior.
The crew sprayed and back-rolled the primer and first wall coat to build even coverage efficiently, then brush-and-rolled the final coat for a controlled finish. Doors and frames were spray-applied to achieve a smooth, consistent appearance. The wallcovering work was sequenced alongside the paint scope so the feature walls could stand apart from the all-white surrounding surfaces without looking disconnected from the rest of the showroom.

clean lines across the sales floor
One Consistent Showroom.
This was not a specialty access or unusual-substrate project; the execution challenge was maintaining clean separation between several finish systems in a large, open retail environment. White walls, flat ceilings, eggshell soffits, semi-gloss doors and frames, and wallcovering feature walls each serve a different visual and functional purpose. The work had to make those transitions feel intentional and consistent from the entry through the sales floor.
The two wallcovering walls were especially important because they anchor a substantial portion of the customer-facing space. Accurate layout, clean seams, and sharp terminations were essential to preserve the feature-wall effect. At the same time, the all-white painted surfaces had to remain uniform so the product displays, lighting, and brand elements could take center stage. Through a straightforward but disciplined finish sequence, Valley Paint delivered a cohesive showroom without overworking the design.
"The completed space closely matched the intended modern, clean, and inviting retail aesthetic, creating a bright, high-end environment that effectively showcases the product displays."
— Project Outcome Summary | Sleep Number Buckeye Commons, Buckeye, AZa showroom designed to feel personal
Built for Discovery
The finished Sleep Number Buckeye Commons store closely matched the intended modern, clean, and inviting retail aesthetic. Bright white surfaces make the showroom feel open and high-end, while the wallcovering feature walls bring visual warmth and brand character to the sales area. The result is a retail setting that supports product discovery and consultation without feeling cold or overly commercial.
By pairing durable commercial coatings with carefully installed wallcovering, Valley Paint gave the space both a polished first impression and the practical finish performance a busy retail showroom needs. The positive response to the wallcovering confirmed the value of treating those sales-area walls as part of the customer experience—not simply background surfaces.
