Julia Buckingham Interiors

specialty office painting scottsdale

When interior designer Julia Buckingham envisioned a sophisticated, oversized home office in the prestigious DC Ranch neighborhood of Scottsdale, the design called for a bold statement: a rich, high-gloss lacquered look across every surface. The goal was to create an environment that felt as inspiring as it was functional, balancing deep color with a mirror-like sheen.

Valley Paint was brought in to execute this ambitious vision. The project required transforming the walls, ceilings, wood doors, and doorframes into a seamless, reflective canvas, while also integrating an owner-selected textured wallcovering to add visual depth. Achieving a true luxury-level finish — worthy of an art gallery — meant there was absolutely no room for error in preparation or application.

precision preparation and specialty application

A high-gloss lacquer finish is unforgiving — it highlights even the smallest surface imperfections. Because of this sensitivity, the foundation work required more time and meticulous care than the final paint application itself. Our team began by extensively sanding and plastering the walls, ceiling, and wood surfaces to achieve a completely smooth, flawless base.

Once the surfaces were prepped, we applied Fresh Start Water-Based Alkyd Primer to ensure maximum adhesion and durability. For the final coat, we utilized Benjamin Moore Advance High Gloss Finish across all surfaces — walls, ceilings, wood doors, and doorframes. This specialty product was selected not only for its ability to deliver the glassy, mirror-like sheen the designer envisioned, but also for its lasting durability in a high-use residential office. Benjamin Moore Advance is a waterborne alkyd that levels like an oil-based paint, self-levels to eliminate brush marks, and cures to a hard, washable film — the right tool for a finish this demanding.

To complement the lacquered surfaces, we installed an elegant, textured wallcovering selected by the homeowner. The wall surfaces were first treated with Roman Wallcovering primers to guarantee proper bonding and a long-lasting, seamless installation — adding the perfect layer of visual intrigue to the room without competing with the lacquer's reflective quality.

"I couldn't have asked for a better execution of my vision. Valley Paint's expertise and meticulous attention to detail made all the difference. This room is truly a masterpiece!"
